Writing Prompt: Write in ottava rima — an Italian form that, in English, usually takes the form of an eight-line stanza of iambic pentameter, with a rhyme scheme of a-b-a-b-a-b-c-c.
At first I thought this would be simple enough, then I googled what ‘iambic pentameter’ means… Stressed/unstressed syllables, we meet again. This time it seems even MORE difficult, and I still haven’t gained full grasp of them alone – nonetheless as part of iambic pentameter. For the sake of my sanity, as it is wearing thinner and thinner everyday, I might write this with a loose concept of the ottava rima form. What I mean by this is I will write an eight-line stanza with a rhyme scheme of a-b-a-b-a-b-c-c, but leave out the iambic pentameter.
The sun peeks from behind the ridge
Then stretches its rays across the plain
Everything culminating to create the perfect image
The land is renewed by a barrage of rain
Out emerges brilliant, lush foliage
Adorning the terrain
Nature exhales a gentle breeze
Then carries on acting on each of its whimsies
